Al and David Eicher, Huron County Historians, have created and released a new video to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Huron County. The Eicher’s have created 26 Michigan Visual History Documentaries since they started in 1994. In December, 2008, Al Eicher gave the keynote address to nearly one hundred members of the Huron County Historical Society at their annual Christmas Dinner Banquet. His lecture and visual presentation focused on the challenges of preserving our historical traditions and the legacy handed down from our pioneering families. The presentation generated considerable interest which led to the creation of this fifty minute documentary called “Huron County Through the Years”.This documentary was actually fifteen years in the making, as they have collected thousands of old photos and stories over the years. The Eicher’s also carried a television camera in their travels capturing some great scenes and events in Huron County. This documentary also features some aerial and underwater videography and a trip with commercial fishermen.
The documentary draws attention to our unique communities in current times and in the past. Knowing something about our local history is key to preserving and improving a way of life for future generations. Huron County is a tourist destination, the food basket of Michigan and it has an ever growing industrial base. Let’s face it, Huron County is a great place to work and raise a family! This Huron County celebration video was sponsored by Thumb National Bank & Trust. The bank is well over one hundred years in service to the citizens of Huron County and over the years has played an important role in the growth of the County. The branch offices of Thumb National Bank & Trust will have DVD’s of the documentary for sale in their bank lobbies. This Anniversary Video is a visual adventure of Huron County with exciting music and all the right ingredients for entertaining and educating the young and older members of the County. The DVD’s will also be sold at various stores in the county where other Visual History Documentaries are sold. Several Historical Societies in the County will also be selling the DVD’s for $22.00 each.
